The library is more
than just books! We offer a variety of free (and, rarely, low cost)
programs for all ages. Unless otherwise noted, the programs listed
below are free and no registration is required.
The library welcomes the
opportunity to serve people with disabilities. If you require a program
to be in accessible format, please call 262-246-5180 at least 72 hours
in advance so arrangements can be made.

Daytime
& Evening Programs
The Friends of the
Pauline Haass Library sponsor programs in support of the library's goal of
providing lifelong learning opportunities to the residents of Lisbon and
Sussex. All programs are free, approximately one hour in length, and
held in the Quad/Graphics Room of the library. No registration required
unless indicated.
Winter/Spring 2010 Programs
Thursday, January 7, 1:00 p.m. -- "Milwaukee in the 1950's: No Wonder They Called It 'Happy Days'" by Historian Stephen Hauser. There was no better place to be than in Milwaukee when politics, business and life were on the upswing after the war. Hear about the movers and shakers and what they accomplished.
Thursday, February 11, 7:00 p.m. -- “This is a Laughing Matter” by Diane Kane, Certified Laughter Leader. Learn how to become more optimistic and hopeful, reducing stress and preventing hardening of the arteries. Research shows that laughter IS the best medicine.
Thursday, March 4, 4:00- 6:00 p.m. – Youth Art Display and Reception to honor student artists and their teachers from the Hamilton School District. The art will remain on display throughout March for the community’s enjoyment of Youth Art Month.
Thursday, March 11, 7:00 p.m. – “The History of Jewelry” by John Barnes, Gemologist. A visual presentation of historical jewelry will precede actual appraisals of those pieces brought in by the audience (one piece per person, please; more if time allows.)
Thursday, April 22, 7:00 p.m. – “Photography Basics through Nature” by Sarah Meissner. Learn how to use a standard digital camera and the importance of the basics; composition, lighting and framing. Through good photography, Earth Day can be celebrated in every season.

Are you just getting started with computers or looking for a little extra help to answer some of your questions? We can help! The library offers free one-on-one computer classes for adults. third Wednesday of every month at 2:00 p.m.

Guys Book Club
This is a new addition to our book discussion groups. The meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. This discussion group will read books that are traditionally more popular with male readers, although ladies are also very welcome to join. Future titles will be determined by the group and will include a mix of fiction and nonfiction. Great Books
The Great Books discussion group invites new members to join as
they begin a new series on the third Wednesday of each month (9:30 a.m.) at
the library. The group will read and discuss fifteen selections from
the anthology Great Conversations I. Great Books
was established in 1947 by two educators from the University of Chicago to help
passionate readers meet and talk about enduring ideas and issues. To find out
