Friends Program: "Wisconsin's Gangster Past" by Chad Lewis, author.  Tues., Mar. 13, 2012, 7:00 p.m.
Follow the footsteps of America's most infamous gangsters as they turned Wisconsin into the Land of Crimes. Find out about John Dillinger's shoot out, Baby Face Nelson's hideout, and more. No registration required. The Friends of the Pauline Haass Library sponsor programs in support of the library's goal of providing lifelong learning opportunities to the residents of Lisbon and Sussex. All programs are free, approximately one hour in length, and held in the Quad/Graphics Room of the library. For more information, contact the library at 262-246-5180.

Piano Sundays

Stop by the library from 2:15 to 3:45 on Sunday, February 19, March 4, and April 1 to hear your neighbors on the piano. The library is looking for pianists of all ages who feel accomplished enough to confidently entertain library users. Performers should be prepared to present either a fifteen minute or a thirty minute program. This is also a great opportunity for piano teachers to showcase their students. Parental permission is required for performers under the age of 16. For more information, contact the Adult Services Desk at 262-246-5181.

Stories Start Here

Check out our new video "Stories Start Here" at the Pauline Haass Public Library. What's your library story?

It's Your Lucky Day!

Have you been on hold for a hit movie or book for what feels like forever?  Try our Lucky Day collection! These are extra copies of our most popular items, and are only available for our walk-in customers.  If you see it on the shelf, you can check it out!  The Lucky Day collection has different checkout rules than our regular materials.  There are no holds or renewals allowed, and there is a $1/day overdue fee.  The books check out for 2 weeks and dvds for 3 days.  If these rules don’t work for you, we also have regular copies available for you to place holds on.  Make sure to stop in often to see if it's your Lucky Day!

Hey Guys! Looking to Join a Book Club?

The library's Guys Book Club meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m.  This discussion group will read books that are traditionally more popular with male readers, although anyone is welcome to join.  We currently have spots for new members, so stop by the library to pick up your book for the next meeting. For more information, call the Adult Reference Desk at 262-246-5181.

Email Reminders Save You Time

Sign up now to receive emails reminding you of upcoming due dates for items checked out at our library and holds available for pickup. Due date notices will be sent three days prior to when your materials are due. Overdue notices will also be sent by email. Register online for this helpful service or stop at the library's Checkout Desk and sign up in person.

Display Opportunity

Have something you’d like to show the community?  Non-profit community groups that would like to highlight their organization or event, or individuals with a collection of community-wide interest are invited to sign up to exhibit in the lobby display case at the library.  If you are interested in reserving this cae, contact the Adult Services Desk at 262-246-5181, download the application, or stop in and see us.

Want to Learn a Foreign Language?

The library now offers two interactive ways to learn foreign languages. Mango Languages is an online language learning system that can help you learn Spanish, Greek, Italian, Japanese and more!  Mango is available free at home or in the library to all valid CAFÉ library card holders.  Rosetta Stone language courses are available for in-library use.  Master Mandarin, French, German, Spanish and Italian with this wonderful language program. All languages have three expertise levels that blend oral and written exercises to teach grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The Rosetta Stone software is available on laptops for use by those ages 14 and older. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult during the language sessions. The library also offers books, videos and audio materials for language learning. For more information, please contact the Adult Services Desk at 262-246-5181 or email us.
