DONATE THROUGH THE GIFTS PROGRAM

A meaningful and satisfying way to honor a person, a group, an occasion, or a milestone is through a donation for the purchase of library materials.

Participation in the Library Gifts Program is a unique and memorable way to do something special for your honoree and for the library.  Through the program, books and audiovisual materials can be purchased by the library at a discount rate of 10-40% (the average discounted price of a hardbound book is about $20.)

The most useful gifts are those given without restriction, which allows the library to purchase items in areas of greatest need.  However, many people prefer to designate their donations for materials that reflect either the interests of the giver or of the person in whose honor or memory the gift is made. We will be happy to help you select from a wide array of materials including books, videos, audiocassettes, and magazine subscriptions.

If you wish, your special person or occasion is identified on a bookplate placed inside each book (or in an appropriate spot on a magazine, video, or audiocassette).

The Library Gifts Program offers you several ways to donate to the Pauline Haass Public Library.  It's easy, and your donation is tax deductible!

Print out a Gifts Program form, available in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader Software installed on your computer, or you can get it for free from the Adobe website

Forms are also available at the library.

BUY A BRICK

Since 1995 the library has raised more than $25,000 by selling personalized bricks which are installed near the building entrance.  Originally a fundraiser which helped to meet the $150,000 challenge by Quad/Graphics, the bricks continue to be a way for people to help the library in a highly visible way while generating additional revenue for materials (books, videos, audiocassettes, etc.).

Many people have used the bricks to memorialize or honor someone, while many others have shown their support for the library by having their own names inscribed.  Whenever possible the bricks are placed next to or near each other if more than one brick is purchased by a family. The library can provide an 8 1/2" by 11" gift certificate that you can present to the recipient of a gift brick (see certificate request form below).

Bricks are installed annually, usually in the late summer or early fall, but they can be purchased at any time during the year.  The cost per brick with either two or three lines of characters is $110, of which approximately $25 goes to buy the brick itself.  Donors may pick one of four choices for use of the remaining money: any area of need, children’s materials, young adult materials, or adult materials.  All orders must be paid in advance.

Print a Brick order form, available in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. Print a gift certificate request form, available in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader Software installed on your computer, or you can get it for free from the Adobe website.

Brick forms are also available at the library.

DONATE USED BOOKS

Bring your used books to the library! The Friends of the Library continually accept donations of used books for their ongoing booksale.  This is an opportunity to clean out your house and help the library at the same time.

Money earned from the booksale is used by the Friends to buy equipment and sponsor programs for the library.

There are a few items that the Friends cannot use for the booksale:

  • musty or smoky-smelling books
  • books in poor condition
  • textbooks more than 3 years old
  • magazines
  • Reader’s Digest condensed books

The library needs to know in advance if you have more than a few boxes of books to donate.  Please call 262-246-5180 to discuss delivering large amounts.
